We have very exciting news from the Capital Chamber Choir!
On April 22, the Capital Chamber Choir (Jamie Loback, Artistic Director) will release its all-Canadian debut album, The Delight of Paradise.
You can view (and listen to!) a preview of this new album here:
The release of this album during Canada’s sesquicentennial anniversary is fitting. This is an ideal time to both celebrate Canadian choral music past and present, and look forward to an exciting future. The album provides a snapshot of the excellent works being written in this country today, including pieces by some of Canada’s newest choral composers.
Founded in 2009, the Capital Chamber Choir is a skilled and ambitious ensemble that is committed to showcasing the best of local, Canadian, and international contemporary choral music. The Capital Chamber Choir is very proud to be part of Ottawa’s thriving choral music scene, which includes a number of gifted composers, six of whom are highlighted on this record.
The album’s title work, The Delight of Paradise by Ottawa’s Nicholas Piper, is a setting of text from The Odes of Solomon, a colourful collection of sacred poetry. This seven-movement cantata is truly a tour de force – a masterpiece of form, counterpoint, and harmony. Featured works by Ottawa-based composers Andrea MacWilliams, Christine Donkin, Timothy Mott, Kelly-Marie Murphy, and Steven Gellman explore themes of reconciliation, love, and peace.
The choir will host an album release celebration on Saturday, April 22 at 7:30pm at Metropolitain Brasserie (700 Sussex Drive). All are invited to attend this cocktail soirée, which will include canapés, a cash bar, performances of album highlights, and plenty of opportunity to mix and mingle. Tickets ($10) are available in advance only: online (www.capitalchamberchoir.ca) and at The Leading Note (317 Elgin Street, Ottawa).
The choir would like to acknowledge funding support from the Ontario Arts Council, an agency of the Government of Ontario, without which the production of this album would not have been possible. The Delight of Paradise will be available for download though iTunes and Amazon beginning April 22, 2017.
